UUFP Planning Pulpit Minute – March 2022

Thanks to the Fellowship's Planning Committee for providing periodic updates on the UUFP Expansion progress.
This Pulpit Minute was delivered by Steve Kadar during the 3/6/22 Sunday Service.

As a member of the Policy Board, I am also the liaison to the Planning Committee, so I will presenting the Planning Minute today.

As you all know, we have all be working toward the goal of having a new home for UUFP. This has been, at times, a complex undertaking with many steps and at times a great deal of information. I would like to take this moment to clarify the priorities of the committee.

First, we are searching for a new location. The Planning Committee, along with the Real Estate Task Force, which I serve on have looked at potential locations. We have been meeting with financial institutions to confirm what financial resources we need to pay for such a move. And, as you know, we had a very successful Capital Campaign plus a very generous donation from the late Richard Hudgins, which gives us literally a financial foundation to pay for a new home.

Second, we will sell our current church campus. We will need the money from the sale to also help finance our move to a new location. While this location is all many of us know, other members remember the prior location at Briarfield Road before the fire, which is how we ended up moving to Youngs Mill Road. Moving is always loaded with emotions and sadness for the old home, but the new home is always filled with new possibilities.

Third, should we need a temporary place to meet before moving to a new location, we have also looked at renting space. We have looked at other locations to potentially rent space. Right now the leading candidate is Temple Sinai down Warwick Blvd, but we will still look at other options, as needed, if and when this option is needed. I hope this Minute will help you define our primary goals, knowing that we have made significant headway from a few years ago and that this dream is being put into action.

Thank you for listening.
