A progressive rainbow flag flies above the flaming chalice logo on the UUFP church building.

A new group for LGBTIQA+ folks and allies, called Aurora, will have its first meeting on May 21 at 7:00 p.m. at the UUFP Office building.

Aurora is a mystical and romantic name that means “Dawn” in Latin.

In many ways since the Stonewall Riots, there has been a broader acceptance of the LGBTIQA+ community; yet there is still considerable work to do. Discrimination, no matter the group, is unfair and unnecessary in a culturally diverse society. To hear, read or see a story involving members of the LGBTIQA+ community is now commonplace, while other people feel overwhelmed and would rather not know this community exists.

The goal of Aurora is to offer a safe space for conversation and future social activities. It affords opportunities for honest discussion about issues for LGBTIQA+ folks. Friends and supporters are welcome, a.k.a. “I’m straight but not narrow.” Attendance and discussion will be kept in confidence, affording a “safe place” to explore ideas about ourselves and others.

If you are interested or if you have questions or ideas, please contact aurora@uufp.org for more information.

We look forward to meeting and creating community with you.
