“White Fragility” – Facing White Supremacy (Discussion Group, Part I of III)
From 7:00 pm to 8:30 pmPresented by Rev. Andrew Millard & Lucy van Tine Our three-part discussion invites us to study the ideas that Robin DiAngelo presents in her book, White Fragility: Why It’s So Hard for White People to Talk About Racism (Beacon Press, 2018). Developed with white people in mind, our discussion guide invites us into the work of learning skills to disrupt racism as a Unitarian Universalist faith commitment and practice. Our discussion is intended to open paths for white participants to come to terms with their own and others’ fragile, defensive and coded responses when a conversation turns to race. It invites examination of the ways that conversations about race, either inter-racially or among white people, can — whether one is aware or not — reinforce racial hierarchy. What: “White Fragility” Discussion Group When: > Session 1, August 11: Facing White Supremacy > Session 2, August 25: How Does Race Shape the Lives of White People? > Session 3, September 8: Interrupting Racist Patterns How/Register here to get the Zoom link to participate: https://uuma.zoom.us/meeting/register/tJMoc-GtrjsvGdQ3sfpHZMAcFF7Sr_3AITI4 For more details about this discussion, contact: Rev.
