Rev. Andrew Millard with Joanne Dingus “The Transient and Permanent in Unitarian Universalism” While Unitarian minister Theodore Parker is best known (at least amongst UUs) for originating the concept of the arc of the moral universe, as well as for keeping a loaded pistol on his sermon-writing desk in case he needed to assist someone escaping slavery, Parker’s greatest influence on our living tradition is found in his 1841 sermon “The Transient and Permanent in Christianity”. He preached that certain elements of religion may be regarded as permanent and essential, while others are transient and accidental, subject to transformation with the passage of time. Let’s consider how Parker’s nineteenth-century message applies to twenty-first-century Unitarian Universalism. What: We are pleased to offer multi-platform services, both in-person and on Zoom. Children’s RE and the Forum take place at 9:30am so that families can attend the service together. Nursery care will be available throughout. For Zoom, you can begin connecting at 10:45 a.m. to check your computer set-up and for introductions, and the service itself will begin promptly at 11:00 a.m. When: Every Sunday, 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Where: 415 Youngs Mill Lane, Newport News, VA 23602 Zoom: https://uuma.zoom.us/j/920676087 Meeting ID: 920 676 087 One tap mobile: +1646-876-9923 Wish to see, read or listen to the sermons?
