Summer Safety Spruce-up – a socially distanced grounds event

2020-08-15 08:00 2020-08-15 14:00 America/New_York Summer Safety Spruce-up – a socially distanced grounds event

We’re overdue for some security and safety work around our grounds and need your help. On Saturday, August 15, starting at 8:00 a.m., we’ll take care of dead and dangling branches and clear growth that blocks visibility and lighting. Volunteers are needed to help with badly overdue pruning, weeding, trimming, dragging, and hauling as we deliver overgrowth to local composting facilities. We’ll formally start about 8:00 a.m. on Saturday and keep working as long as there are volunteers. Morning or afternoon, there will be plenty to do.   We especially need: A few trucks or trailers to transport our cuttings to be recycled into mulch and compost Master gardeners to coach people through proper pruning of shrubs and crepe myrtle Rakes and tarps to clear out twigs, pine straw, and gum balls Power saws/chain saws for heavier growth and fallen branches. Bring your tools, hats, sun screen, and masks. Home-baked snacks and bottled water will be provided. We may be worshiping virtually, but our grounds and buildings need our help so that they’re ready for our safe return and eventual sale. If you are not available that day, we also have smaller individual jobs: Do you like getting your hands in the dirt? We need to clear overgrowth around the back of the office and ramp. Are you good with wood? Ramp repairs are required, and we need to repair an interior door frame. Interior decorating? We have some new window coverings, and a bit of paint will be required after ramp and door repairs. …and the list goes on. Please watch the Announcements, Events Calendar and the UUFP Community Facebook page for specific “Small Bit” requests. You can also contact admin@uufp.org, grounds@uufp.org, and winds@uufp.org with questions or offers. In peace, Greg G
