Sunday Forum: “Protect Yourself from Fraud and Identity Theft”
From 9:30 am to 10:30 amPresented by Philisa Johnson AARP Associate State Director for Community Outreach The coronavirus and the economic downturn give scammers new twists to steal our money or sensitive personal information. Every day (and especially at this time with holiday frauds and scams), the AARP Fraud Watch Network receives reports of health testing scams, stimulus check scams, work from home scams, and more. Scammers take full advantage of opportunities during tax filing season to make a fast buck. They commit tax identity theft by filing a phony tax return using victims’ personal information to get a refund. To protect yourself against this scam, file your return as early as possible, use a secure Internet connection if you file electronically, or mail your tax return directly from the post office. Join us for our 12/6/20 Forum, as AARP representative Philisa Johnson helps us protect ourselves from identity theft and fraud. Philisa Johnson is the Associate State Director for Community Outreach for AARP Virginia-in Hampton Roads. She leads community outreach projects, organizes local events, and recruits, trains, and manages community volunteers.
