Sunday Forum: “Improving Our Shared ZOOM Experience to Meet Our Need for Community and Relationship”
From 9:30 am to 10:30 amPresented by Gary Ott (R) & Parker Stokes Classroom teachers and group facilitators understand there is a need for groups to share some level of agreement on how they should behave with each other. Gary Ott and Parker Stokes will introduce the range of agreements from complex covenants to basic shared agreements—agreements necessary to improve our use of the ZOOM process. After an introduction of terms, Gary, Parker, and Kathryn Ozyurt will take participants to “break-out” to discuss two examples of mutually agreeable rules: (1) Share the air: Be mindful of how much you and those around you are speaking. (2) Listen – Actively and Humbly: Be present and attentive while others are speaking. Join us as we expand on these guidelines that can help us both improve our meetings/educational forums and nurture relationship and community—objectives especially important during this time of social distancing! About Our Facilitators: Retired as the science coordinator to the Coast Guard in 2006, Gary’s specialized training and experience in large emergencies is in “risk communications,” a science-based approach for communicating effectively in situations of high stress, high concern, or controversy. These professional skills are transferable to personal relationships, helping to better manage our own communication challenges. Dr. Parker Stokes retired last year after a 42-year career at Hampton Family Practice. He has worked in the medical office, hospital and emergency room settings. Parker shares his years of experiences with the UUFP using community building skills.
