Friends,
Only 10 days remain for you to express your ideas, suggestions, and comments on the proposed fundamental revision to our Seven Principles and Six Sources. We are now in the final moments of the comment period, where UUs across the nation are offering ideas for amendments to the far-reaching revision of our Seven Principles, Six Sources, and our statement of Purposes, Inclusion, and Freedom of Belief. The 1985 versions of these may be found in the UUA bylaws and in the Report to the UUA Board of Trustees, (pp 17 – 18). See the extensive proposed revision to our Principles and Sources here.
To participate in the democratic process in the national UU conversation to shape our statements of faith — our UU Values, Covenants and Inspirations — please see the following time sensitive resources and sites:
- The UUA nationwide discussion site on Principles/Sources revision
(register on the discussion site to be able to share your ideas or respond), - See these tips for how to find/read the more than 200 comments so far,
- Submit your own idea for amendment before April 30 for national consideration.
Ideas submitted before April 30 are eligible to become actual amendments to the major revision of our Principles and Sources.
Starting in May, I will send information about national UU Zoom workshops to hone amendments.
Friends, as a denomination, we are in the process of profoundly re-seeing our core commitments to each other. That is, we are completely rewriting our foundational statements for the next generation. Indeed, the proposed Values/Covenants and Inspirations look very, very different from our familiar Principles and Sources, even as the core of our Principles carry over.
Engage! Make your voice and vision known! As always, please contact me with any questions or concerns via email: president@uufp.org
