The UUFP is kicking off its annual fundraising campaign. You can make your pledge online, by returning the form that you should have received in your email, or sending an email to finance@uufp.org.
Dear Members and Friends,
"There is a Chinese curse which says, 'May you live in interesting times.' Like it or not, we live in interesting times. They are times of danger and uncertainty; but they are also the most creative of any time in history…" (Robert F. Kennedy, Cape Town, South Africa).
Robert F. Kennedy spoke those prophetic words in 1966, but they could have been said yesterday. It might be tempting to continue to isolate ourselves even after the pandemic recedes and sanity is restored to politics, but our better natures are calling us. Can we seize this moment? In the words of another great American, Yes We Can.
Our Seven Principles, written during that same decade, are equally prophetic:
The inherent worth and dignity of every person... Can we completely embrace this idea and spread it beyond our boundaries? Yes We Can.
Justice, equity, and compassion in human relations... Can this be a reality in our church and our community? It will not happen overnight, and it will not be easy, but Yes We Can.
Acceptance of one another and encouragement to spiritual growth… We now have the technology to extend the reach of our religious education for youth and adults and services beyond physical boundaries. Can we become a force beyond our walls? Yes We Can.
A free and responsible search for truth and meaning... Our Fellowship is composed of members and friends who understand that truth, not opinion or conjecture, is paramount. Can we, through our Sunday Morning Forums and beyond, influence those taken in by falsehoods? Yes We Can.
The right of conscience and the use of the democratic process…in society at large... Our Social Justice Committee does more than talk and write; it leads. Will we continue our important work and extend its influence far beyond our Fellowship? Yes We Can.
The goal of world community with peace, liberty, and justice for all… Will we continue to march as we are able, in person or in spirit, for the rights of immigrants and the disenfranchised? Yes We Can.
Respect for the interdependent web of all existence… Will we advocate for bold steps to combat Global Warming and seek a spiritual link with nature? Yes We Can.
Yes
We
Can!
Your previous pledges during a challenging time have been essential. This year’s pledge will be the foundation for what follows, undergirding all that we do. We have set a bold goal of $220,000 in pledges. As you consider your giving, please be as thoughtful and as generous as you can be.
President Obama said, Yes We Can. With our help, we can quote him once more: Yes We Did.
